Check the mailbox for a The Lake House review

I’m still trying to figure out if this is a sequel or prequel to Speed.

As is usually the case with time travel movies, there are several plot holes in this film that made it a little confusing.

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. What’s not to love?

Seriously though…somehow, the supporting cast seemed more insignificant here than any other film I remember. None of their subplots really mattered in the end at all. Still, everyone did great jobs and there weren’t any annoying characters, so I won’t take any points off.

I thought the whole orange/blue thing was reserved for action movies. And what was with the skater montage during the failed date scene?

Product Placement

I remember a case of Samuel Adams beer at one point, but otherwise, not enough to mention.

It was definitely unique, but at the same time, it was predictable enough to keep me from thinking that I had a wonderful time watching it.

  1. I watched the original Korean version before this one…so obviously I didn’t enjoy this as much. But I’m huge fans of Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock so that made up for the parts that didn’t work out as well for me!
    Great review! :)

  2. i didn’t remember there being any holes in the story… but i’m not a big keanu fan… he has no emotions… seriously… he sounds the same whether he’s saying “there’s a bomb on this bus” or “i love you”…

  3. I remember there is some kind of threat of him getting hit by a bus or something, and that’s why they don’t meet up at first? I don’t know. I saw it in the theaters in high school and never again. I do remember making lots of bus jokes though…

  4. I like this movie! Though, yeah there’s some confusing part and illogical missteps that may have caused some paradox which would be feasible coz there’s time travel involved… =.= I also think I watched two movies similar to this one. I forgot both the titles but one is Chinese and the other is also an American movie. Except instead of letters the former uses an old radio and the latter uses an old telephone. @_@ Idk if you knew the two movies, but I do know that this one made me smile at the end and during the crying scenes I cried especially because it’s Sandra… o(???)o BTW, you nailed it with your review!???????

  5. And because of that I researched the Chinese movie!! The title is “Sky of Love” (2003) the main characters communicate through old radiophone and has almost the same feel as The Lake House (errr, except for the dying part) but I still remember how my heart broke into two at the end of the film >..<) here they used an old telephone "Moments of Love" (2006) .

  6. [...] The Lake House was more like K-PAX, it would be Happy Accidents. I got confused by the narrative structure of it, [...]
