I hear you whispering…planning on reviewing The Happening

Special thanks to Bubbawheat for showing me the What No! (The Happening Remix) video that led to me to review this film.

M. Night Shyamalan is known for his “twist endings”, so I spent the entire film waiting for the twist to happen.

Once the movie was over, I realized I had spent the entire film just waiting for anything to happen.

All the actors seemed to be treating this film like it was “first rehearsal night” at the community theater.

I left a point because Mark Wahlberg was so awful that he became fun to watch as a result.

The blood and guts were a little over the top (as in “unnecessary”, not “excessive”), but I can’t take off for that.

Product Placement

If I ever see this again, it won’t be in its entirety. If anything, I’ll just watch the Mark Wahlberg parts again for a good laugh.

  1. So you’re saying this is kind of a so bad its good movie?

I’ve been avoiding it because of the horrible reviews…and because after seeing Signs, I was scared to watch another one of his movies.

  2. It was terrible, even by M. Night Shyamalan’s standards. One of the worst films I’ve ever seen. Nice review.

  3. Awful movie. That “What?..no!” video is hilarious :)

  4. I kinda liked the movie. I liked the way it highlighted what BS the news is.

  5. I saw this years ago and remember nothing except also waiting the whole film for that “something” to happen.

    Great review!

  6. Hi Justin,

I just redesigned my blog and I was wondering if you wanted to design the new logo (since you have a degree in graphic design). If so, just let me know and I’ll email you the details.

  7. I’ve yet to actually watch the movie, the What?! No! remix is enough for me. Sorry I led to putting you through this, loved reading about it though.

  8. A 2 out of 3? What? No! I went in knowing it was bad, but couldn’t believe how bad it really was…the scene where they were running from the wind was so weird that I couldn’t help laughing…

  9. This movie is bad without a doubt, but it’s even more so just bizarre. I distinctly remember just not getting the point at all. I also don’t get why Zooey gets paired up with the weirdest love interest. Her and Marc Whalberg make no sense together, but then you have her with freaking Will Ferrell in Elf and Jim Carry in Yes Man. Apparently casting directors just think she can pair well with anyone they put her in a movie with.
