Head down the tracks for a review of Stand by Me

“Movies I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Seen Before Now” week continues with a review that accidentally got posted a few days ago! Always remember to change the post date first, kids!

I was planning to give a 3 here, but the whole pie-eating contest story completely threw off the vibe they had been setting up for the first half of the movie.

Finally, a John Cusack role I thought was okay (even though it was incredibly small)! Besides that, it’s always fun to see Marshall Bell, as well as a young Jerry O’Connell and Kiefer Sutherland.

They captured the feel of the 1950′s pretty well. Continuing with the pie-eating thing, I could have done without seeing a hundred people throwing up on each other though.

Product Placement

Coke and PEZ were seen and heard a few times, most notably on one of the posters. Also, it’s been a while since I’ve had to mention this, but I don’t count items in convenience-type stores.

I didn’t quite enjoy this enough to want to come back to it anytime soon, but it’s not going on my “Never Again” list.

  1. I have seen this movie many many times. I did enjoy it but I don’t think it will ever be one that I grab and put in the DVD player.. it’ll be one of those movies I catch on TV on a lazy Saturday afternoon..

  2. You don’t like John Cusack? What about movies like Serendipity and Say Anything?
