If you stay positive, you have a shot at a Silver Linings Playbook review

SilverLiningsPlaybook

Plot

The story was good when things were actually happening.

Characters

Characters in movies like this are hard to judge. Part of me finds their constant mood swings annoying, but part of me recognizes that they’re supposed to be that way.

Maybe I should have separated Characters and Actors in this scoring system, you guys.

Visuals

For a movie with “silver” in the title, a lot of the movie had a golden glow to it.

I took a point off because the camera guy seemed to get bored several times, moving the camera away from the action for a second.

Product Placement

There were a couple of things, the most prominent of which was the main character eating a bowl of Raisin Bran.

Rewatchability

I didn’t seem to like this one as much as everyone else, but it wasn’t terrible.

  1. Yup agree with you this movie was way overrated !

  2. Nice review. This was one of my favorites of 2012.

  3. Cool review yo, while it’s no masterpiece I think it was one of the more overlooked films of last year, I caught it by chance and loved it. I thought the story was good but it was the cast that brought it to life. This was definitely one of my fav films of last year and I totally didn’t expect it to be.

    • I guess I see (and enjoy) so many romantic comedies that my tastes are very specific in that area.

  4. Sorry you didn’t appreciate it more. I loved it :)

  5. Good review. Made me happy and made me cry. That’s about it.

  6. I think the real weakness of this film is that they superimposed a random sports-final style plot over what was otherwise a rather thoughtful (though, as you say, at times slow) exploration. The jarring contrast in styles just kills the whole thing. At times it is extremely strong, and then the acting is amazing.

  7. I was utterly annoyed by this movie, the only actor worth talking about was DeNiro, outside of him it was whatever, I didn’t think Bradley was great, he’s just more of the same in all his movies, although he tried. I thought it was nice to see Chris Tucker doing something note worthy.

  8. The listing of RXs seemed very product placement to me… or anti-product placement, rather.

    • Medicine is a tricky subject when it comes to product placement.

Certain things are expected to be discussed in a doctors office, and not many people would know medicines by their generic names.

  9. Nice review. While I loved this film, I can see how it isn’t for everybody.
