Vin Diesel Week comes to a close with the film that was the main reason for doing a Vin Diesel Week in the first place.
While a little weak in spots, this movie was a nice mixture of the good parts of the first two movies. Unfortunately, that gave a “been there, done that” feeling to the whole thing.
The supporting cast had some similarities to the supporting cast from the first film, but they were different enough for that not to be a problem.
The beginning of this movie felt like a CGI zoo with all those fake looking creatures everywhere. Riddick’s pet alien-dog-thing felt very cartoony, too.
The digital landscape eventually gave way to practical sets, so it balanced out in the end.
None here, either.
This series is the loosest definition of a trilogy that I’ve ever come across. Seeing the first two isn’t required for understanding this one, and seeing this one doesn’t provide much closure after seeing the first two.
