Will I ever be able to separate John Krasinski from his The Office character? Probably not.

A few minor things, most of which were in a convenience-type store, and we rarely count those around here.

Rewatchability

Bleh. Yet another film that could have easily avoided an R rating if they cleaned up the language.

Plot

Wow, this movie doesn’t mess around. The attacks happened by the time the opening credits were barely over.

I loved that it had a definite ending to it, unlike the new one did.

Aside from Patrick Swayze and the two females, I couldn’t tell the rest of the Wolverines apart most of the time.

Visuals

Benefit of the doubt is always given in this section to movies that are the same age as me.

Product Placement

There were enough things mixed in with the group’s rations that some of it had to be on purpose.

Rewatchability

Again, having seen the remake before seeing this one is probably making this one more appealing to me than it would have been otherwise.

They didn’t spend as much time on the plane as I thought they would, but that’s not important. This movie has just as much plot as you’d expect an explosive action movie to have.

There were so many characters in this that it felt crowded at times, but they were all great, so it didn’t matter.

There was so much going on during that shootout in the boneyard that I couldn’t keep up.

Product Placement

I guess I can’t let the Doritos and Hostess Snow Balls pass.

Rewatchability

I’ve been wanting to see this one for years, and it didn’t disappoint.

Plot

I got a little confused a few times, but there was much tighter storytelling this time around, especially considering it was mostly improvised.** Plus, there were plenty of laughs to be had as usual.

Characters

There was just the right amount of character development, and they poked fun at themselves a little bit along the way, too.

Visuals

Lots of fun effects were used. I especially liked the nice use of split screen and the exploding van.

Product Placement

As usual, items inside convenience stores don’t count. Stores they drove by don’t count. The fact that one scene takes place in a McDonalds doesn’t count. Nothing counts here, okay? Nothing.

Rewatchability

At just under an hour, it’s the perfect length for multiple viewings. I just wish I had been able to see it earlier.

I’m giving a 2 here because there are so many places where you can see glimpses of what could have been.

Characters

Anton Yelchin. The worst thing about Star Trek is the best thing about Terminator Salvation.

Too bad Christian Bale ruined it, though.

Visuals

This is a very brown movie, but it is a war movie after all, so it’s to be expected.

There were a lot of dark parts, though.

Product Placement

They just had to pan up to show that one part of the resistance was in a 7-Eleven, didn’t they? Otherwise, there’s nothing.

Rewatchability

If I ever sit through the Terminator series again, I will probably choose to ignore this entry…unless they ever get around to making Terminator 5, and it turns out to be decent.

Plot

The Terminator series is a strange one. The beginning and the end were both set up in the first movie, and each new installment adds to the middle.

In this case, I think the fact that almost 1/4th of this movie is a non-stop car chase scene proves that not a whole lot was added this time around.

Characters

I think I somehow preferred the kid version of John Connor.

If I can’t have Sarah Connor in this, then Claire Danes is a great substitute.

Visuals

What can I say? The CGI was decent, and they still threw a few practical effects in as well.

Product Placement

A Victoria’s Secret billboard was used within the first few minutes of the movie for a “joke”, but since that’s pretty much the only thing there was, I won’t count it.

Rewatchability

The best thing this movie has going for it in this department is that it’s part of a series.

Wow, that kid is awful. Then again, I think 99% of kids in movies are awful.

Although, I guess I can’t expect too much here. They did find this kid by doing a talent search in a mall.

Visuals

A nice mixture of practical effects and CGI.

Product Placement

Look at all that Pepsi. Since it stayed in the background (meaning “nobody talked about it”), I won’t take off two points.

Rewatchability

This is one of those movies that I’m surprised it took me so long to finally see.

Sarah Connor has been one of my favorite movie characters for quite a while.

I love the way they constantly talk about John Connor but never show him. It keeps him mysterious.

Visuals

Hooray for practical effects! Who cares if they’re almost 30 years old?

Rewatchability

Even though I enjoy it, the more I see it, the campier it seems to get.

For a “romantic comedy”, this was pretty depressing at times.

I loved the soundtrack, though. Then again, I was already a Sun Kil Moon fan.

Characters

I don’t usually like Jason Schwartzman, but his character was harmlessly quirky here. Or maybe I was too distracted by Claire Danes to notice.

Visuals

They bookended the movie with inventive camera movements, but they gave that up in the middle in favor of over-saturation.

Product Placement

Enough stuff to take a point off for, but my days of listing every single small thing are long gone.

Rewatchability

I can’t imagine a scenario where I’d watch this again, but two years ago, I would never have imagined a scenario where I’d be writing a daily blog with over 1,000 (super cool) subscribers…So you never know, right?
