This movie felt very cold and detached. I (mildly) enjoyed it, but for a story full of space battles and alien races and imminent threats, there wasn’t much excitement.
Asa Butterfield did a good job, as did everyone else, but it’s hard to empathize with a main character who seemingly gets everything constantly handed to him.
The space ships, space stations, space suits, and space everything-elses were great. A little dark, yes, but sleek and shiny nonetheless.
I went into this mostly blind. I didn’t see any trailers and I’ve never read the book. The best praise I can give is that it made me interested in reading the book.
