Despite my recent hangups about “fundraiser to keep rich guy from demolishing the building” plots, they handled this one a lot better than most by not putting much focus on that aspect of the plot.
There is not a single unlikeable character in this entire film. That’s right. Even Jack Black managed to be likeable in this one.
The “special effects” used in the fake movies showed tons of imagination, not just on the part of the characters, but the filmmakers as well.
Obviously tons of other movies were shown and talked about in this movie, but this movie wouldn’t exist without that, and they weren’t trying to sell them to us.
(For any nitpickers out there, yes, they showed a few Dorito bags in the store, but they never mentioned or even touched them.)
I think Be Kind Rewind is going to be a permanent part of my DVD collection. It’s definitely one of those “I wish I had seen this sooner” films.
